About Black Chalk Wine
Black Chalk is an award-winning English sparkling wine producer crafting exceptional wines in the chalklands of Hampshire's picturesque Test Valley. What started in 2015 with a leap of faith and grapes purchased from local Hampshire vineyards has grown into one of the most exciting names in English wine.
Black Chalk Wine: Site and Grape Varieties
The winery now occupies 12 hectares of established vineyards on chalk soils, transformed from unloved farm buildings into Black Chalk headquarters. Across their Hampshire vineyard they grow an impressive 34 different combinations of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Précoce, and Pinot Gris, allowing remarkable precision in crafting their wines.
The range includes their flagship 'Classic' sparkling wine, created using the three traditional Champagne varieties, the distinctive 'Wild Rose' sparkling rosé, and 'Dancer in Pink,' a still rosé. Oak fermentation and extended lees ageing add depth and complexity, while the chalk soils provide the bright purity and precision that defines the Black Chalk style.
Complete with a state-of-the-art winery, tasting room, and outdoor event space, Black Chalk has become a destination for wine enthusiasts. Visitors gain insight into how vines are grown and English wine is produced, experiencing the hard work, perseverance, and sense of fun that characterises this winemaker-led project.
At its heart, Black Chalk remains driven by a small but hugely passionate team where every member gets involved in vineyards and winery – because they're all Black Chalk winemakers at heart.
