About Davenport Vineyards
Davenport Vineyards has stood at the forefront of organic English winemaking for over three decades, building a reputation for wines of exceptional purity and character. Founded in 1991 when Will Davenport planted five acres of vines in the Kentish village of Horsmonden, the estate has grown into one of England's most respected organic wine producers.
Today, the vineyards span 24 acres across five carefully selected sites, most in Horsmonden with a smaller site in Rotherfield, East Sussex. Each location offers a unique combination of soil type and microclimate, contributing to the complexity and individuality of Davenport wines. Nine grape varieties thrive across these sites, giving the winemaking team remarkable versatility.
Organic farming has been central to Davenport's philosophy from the beginning. In 2000, the decision was made to convert both vineyards and winery to organic practices, achieving Soil Association certification in 2003. This commitment to natural methods results in fruit of outstanding purity, while also building long-term soil health and biodiversity. The focus is always on growing healthy vines through sustainable practices rather than relying on chemical interventions.
Recent accolades confirm the quality of this approach. At the 2025 WineGB Awards, Davenport received Gold for their Limney Estate Sparkling Wine 2019, Silver for Redmoors Pinot Noir, and Bronze for Ortega. The Limney Estate Sparkling also earned Highly Commended at the 2025 BOOM Awards.
A new purpose-built winery opened in Horsmonden in 2024, designed with sustainability in mind to support growing production. The winery shop is now open on Fridays from 11am to 5pm, with plans for tastings and tours in development. Davenport Vineyards represents English organic winemaking at its finest.
