About Fairmile Vineyard
Fairmile Vineyard occupies what William Morris described as 'the most beautiful stretch of the Thames' at Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. This prestigious estate has rapidly established itself as one of England's finest sparkling wine producers since local couple Jan and Anthea Mirkowski planted vines in 2011.
The vineyard's maiden vintage from 2015 made an immediate impact, being rated by a leading wine and lifestyle magazine as England's only Outstanding sparkling white wine, earning an exceptional 95-97 points out of 100. This remarkable debut signalled the arrival of a serious new player in English sparkling wine.
Planted with the classic Champagne trio of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay, the vineyard benefits from gentle slopes, abundant sunshine, and proximity to the River Thames. The Chilterns foothills provide free-draining chalk soils similar to those of Champagne, creating ideal conditions for producing elegant sparkling wines.
Fairmile's accolades continue to accumulate, including Gold medals from the Independent English Wine Awards for their Classic Cuvée and numerous Silver medals for both their Classic Cuvée and Rosé. The vineyard produces exclusively vegan-friendly sparkling wines in white and rosé styles.
The vineyard proudly continues the long heritage of English viticulture dating back to Roman times some 2000 years ago. Visits are available by appointment, offering wine lovers the chance to experience why Henley is increasingly associated with world-class English sparkling wine alongside its famous regatta.
