About Goodworth Clatford Vineyard
Goodworth Clatford Vineyard is a small family estate planted in 2016 by Mark and Cecilia Haszlakiewicz, longstanding residents of this picturesque Test Valley village. Their one-acre paddock now hosts 1,325 carefully tended vines producing quality English sparkling wine.
Goodworth Clatford Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
The vineyard is planted with the classic Champagne trio: Chardonnay (53%), Pinot Noir (33%), and Pinot Meunier (14%). This traditional blend creates a balanced cuvée that reflects the exceptional terroir of Hampshire - a region famed for its crystal-clear chalk streams, trout fishing, and increasingly, some of England's finest sparkling wines.
The first harvest came in 2018, with the inaugural release of Goodworth 2018 Classic Blend following in 2021. Tasting notes describe 'notes of grapefruit, green apple and pear on the nose, interlaced with subtle hints of blossom and sourdough' - characteristics that speak to both the quality of the fruit and the careful winemaking.
The Test Valley provides ideal conditions for viticulture. The Hampshire chalk creates free-draining soils that stress vines productively, encouraging deep root development and concentrated fruit. The valley's protected microclimate allows grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while retaining the acidity essential for elegant sparkling wine.
Goodworth Clatford exemplifies the small family vineyards now emerging across Hampshire's chalk downs, proving that quality English sparkling wine can be produced at intimate scale. Their lovingly nurtured vines and careful attention to detail create a refreshing sparkling wine that captures the essence of this beautiful valley.
