About Herbert Hall
Herbert Hall is a boutique English sparkling wine producer crafting elegant traditional method wines from their vineyard in the Weald of Kent. Named after the founder's grandfather, the estate honours family heritage while pursuing excellence in English winemaking.
The vineyard is planted with the classic Champagne grape varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – which thrive in Kent's mild climate and well-drained soils. The Weald's unique geology, formed from ancient clay and sandstone, imparts distinctive mineral character to the wines, while careful vineyard management ensures grapes of optimal ripeness and balance.
Herbert Hall's winemaking follows traditional method production, with each cuvée undergoing secondary fermentation in bottle and extended ageing on the lees. This patient approach develops the fine bubbles, creamy texture and complex flavours that distinguish premium sparkling wine. The house style emphasises elegance and freshness, with bright fruit character underpinned by subtle toasty notes from lees contact.
The range includes both vintage and non-vintage expressions, showcasing the diversity possible from this single estate. From the crisp, apple-fresh character of the Blanc de Blancs to the richness of Pinot-dominated cuvées, Herbert Hall offers wines for every occasion.
Visitors are welcome by appointment for tours and tastings, providing an intimate introduction to English sparkling wine production. The experience includes a walk through the vines, a tour of the winery, and a guided tasting of current releases. Herbert Hall represents the best of Kent's emerging wine scene – ambitious, quality-focused, and deeply connected to place.
