About Kingsthorne
Kingsthorne Wine Estates represents an ambitious vision to create world-class English wine in the most sustainable environment, centred on the historic Flaxley Estate in Gloucestershire. Under the ownership of Peter Cooke since 2019, the estate is undergoing careful restoration of its historic buildings while developing a comprehensive wine destination.
Kingsthorne Wine Estates: Awards and Recognition
The winemaking excellence is already proven. At their first wine competition - Wine GB West 2024 - Kingsthorne's Chardonnay was awarded the trophy for Still White Wine of 2024, alongside a host of silver and bronze awards. This remarkable achievement stems from the expertise of winemaker and viticulturalist Simon Day, the most experienced winemaker in the UK with over 35 years of crafting wines that are putting Britain on the world wine map.
The estate operates vineyards at two sites: Flaxley and Longney, each contributing distinct characteristics to the wine range. The 250-tonne capacity winery will house modern stainless steel tanks alongside oak foudres and racks of oak barriques, blending contemporary equipment with traditional methods to nurture the very best from carefully harvested grapes.
Visiting Kingsthorne Wine Estates
The painstaking refurbishment of Flaxley's historic farm buildings is a labour of love, undertaken with conservation specialists and archaeologists since 2020. Plans include an estate office and farm shop in the historic Herdsman's cottage, a restaurant serving great quality food sourced from the estate's own meat and kitchen gardens, and a fully-stocked estate shop featuring local produce.
Sustainability and heritage preservation sit at the heart of the Kingsthorne vision. The estate aims to enhance natural habitats while producing exceptional wines that express the Gloucestershire terroir. The drone imagery capturing views over Mugglewort and Flaxley Woods towards the Cotswolds hints at the stunning landscape setting.
Kingsthorne Wine Estates promises to become a major English wine destination, combining trophy-winning wines with hospitality in lovingly restored heritage buildings. Follow their journey as this exciting project continues to develop.
