About Marlbank Vineyard
Marlbank Vineyard is nestled just east of the Malvern Hills in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, continuing a long tradition of fruit growing that has defined this landscape for centuries. Where apples and pears once produced renowned cider and perry well into the 20th century, today 1,500 Pinot Noir vines flourish in a one-acre, hand-cultivated vineyard on these historic slopes.
Marlbank Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
The vineyard's exceptional quality stems from its remarkable terroir. Marl soils washed down from the Malvern Hills over millennia create conditions remarkably similar to some of Burgundy's finest vineyards, legendary for growing Pinot Noir grapes. This geological heritage, combined with meticulous hand cultivation throughout the year, produces grapes of outstanding quality that form the foundation of Marlbank's wines.
Partnering with the talented team at Three Choirs Winery, Marlbank transforms their black Pinot Noir grapes into their signature sparkling white wine, a Blanc de Noirs in the French tradition. This dedication to excellence was recognised at the 2025 London Tasting Awards, where their 2023 Marlbank Blanc de Noirs was crowned Best Pinot Noir wine and won Gold in the white wine category, a humbling achievement for both Marlbank and English wine.
Marlbank is part of the Malvern Hills Vineyards trail, a collaboration of six vineyards across three counties cultivating 14 grape varieties. Visitors can explore the vineyard and join the community of 'Friends of Marlbank' who participate in everything from pruning to harvest. The intimate harvest gatherings, where friends and family hand-pick the grapes destined to become limited-edition vintages, embody the artisanal spirit that makes Marlbank truly special.
