About Red Wharf Bay Vineyard
Red Wharf Bay Vineyard is a delightfully unique micro-vineyard overlooking the stunning Red Wharf Bay on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. Named by BBC Countryfile as one of the ten best places to visit on Anglesey, this small vineyard offers an experience unlike any other in British winemaking.
Red Wharf Bay Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
The vineyard's story is one of perseverance and creativity. Owner Kevin first planted vines in his field overlooking the bay in 2010, initially with limited success. After considering moving his grape-growing ambitions to sunnier Andalucia in southern Spain, only to be thwarted by European agricultural policy, he returned to Anglesey with renewed determination and knowledge. The result is a Welsh vineyard with a delightful touch of Spain.
Growing primarily Rondo grapes, which are well-suited to the Welsh maritime climate, Red Wharf Bay produces distinctive wines that reflect both the challenging conditions and the owner's innovative approach. The vineyard opened to the public for tours and wine tastings in June 2018, offering visitors a truly memorable experience.
