About Stopham Vineyard
Stopham Vineyard is set in a beautiful location near Pulborough in West Sussex, within the peaceful hamlet of Stopham, a rural idyll steeped in history that forms part of the South Downs National Park. This 15-acre estate was carefully chosen for its free-draining sandy soil and south-facing aspect, planted in 2007 by winemaker Simon Woodhead.
Stopham Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
The vineyard specialises in white wine production, crafting wines with precision and passion from hand-harvested grapes grown exclusively on the estate. The combination of sandy, free-draining soil and the site's exceptional terroir next to the River Arun creates an ideal microclimate for viticulture. Each vintage reflects the diverse Sussex landscape, with wines that showcase vibrant fruit flavours and crisp acidity.
Tours at Stopham are conducted by one of the winemakers, Simon, Tom, or vineyard manager Adderley, offering a comprehensive, in-depth exploration of both the vineyard and winery. Visitors gain a fascinating insight into commercial wine production, getting close to all the equipment and culminating in a tasting of the range of delicious wines.
The estate boasts some of the best views in the county, making for happy vines and happy winemakers alike. The dedicated team of enthusiasts are ready to share their knowledge and passion for English winemaking, making Stopham an essential destination for anyone interested in discovering the finest wines that Sussex has to offer.
