About The Vyneyarde, Westwell Wine Estates Ltd
Westwell Wine Estates is a family-founded, family-run estate winery located on the chalk slopes at the foot of the North Downs in Kent. Named by Time Out as one of the top vineyards in the UK to visit, Westwell is an award-winning low-intervention estate winery dedicated to making wines that express the individuality of their beautiful Kent terroir.
Westwell Wine Estates: Site and Grape Varieties
The vineyard was established beneath the Pilgrims Way on the North Downs, growing four different varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Ortega. Adrian Pike took over the estate from previous owner John Rowe in 2016, continuing the commitment to quality and innovation. The south-facing slopes on chalk soil create ideal conditions for premium grape production.
Westwell has pioneered numerous innovations in English wine. They were the first English vineyard to make an amphora-aged wine and the first to successfully keg wine. The experimentation continues with piquette made from waste grape pressings, pet nats, and skin contact wines, pushing the boundaries of what English wine can be.
The commitment to creating wines that tell the story of the land runs through everything at Westwell. Small-scale production means the team can be present at every stage, from grape to glass, letting the fruit speak for itself with minimal intervention. People are the foundation of Westwell, with an inclusive workplace where respect, determination, and integrity drive their passion for producing delicious, drinkable wines.
