About Tillingham
Tillingham has established itself as one of England's most exciting and progressive wine producers, crafting natural wines with minimal intervention from their beautiful 70-acre estate in East Sussex. Set amongst rolling hills and ancient woodlands with far-reaching views along the Tillingham River valley towards the historic hilltop town of Rye, the Romney salt marshes and the sea beyond.
The farm dates from the 13th century and today operates as a diverse, poly-cultural enterprise encompassing vineyards, fruit trees, ancient woodland and livestock. This mixed farming approach reflects Tillingham's philosophy of working with nature rather than against it. The team combines the best scientific and technological knowledge with ancient traditions and millennia of farming wisdom.
Biodynamic principles guide the viticulture, with a focus on restoring soils to optimum levels of organic matter and ecological diversity. The result is fruit of exceptional purity that expresses the unique character of this coastal terroir. In the winery, minimal intervention allows the grapes to speak for themselves, producing wines with authenticity and sense of place.
The recently renovated farmstead has transformed Tillingham into a destination. Visitors can stay overnight in characterful accommodation, dine in the restaurant featuring produce from the farm and local area, and of course taste the remarkable wines. The experience captures Tillingham's ethos perfectly – thoughtful, sustainable, and deeply connected to the land. Open daily from 11am to 10pm, Tillingham offers a unique opportunity to experience English wine at its most progressive and exciting.
