Domaine Evremond represents a landmark moment in English wine history – the first time a prestigious Champagne house has invested in the United Kingdom to produce sparkling wine. This remarkable partnership between Champagne Taittinger and their British friends at Hatch Mansfield launched at Westminster Abbey in 2015, signalling international confidence in England's potential to produce world-class fizz.

Domaine Evremond: Site and Grape Varieties

The estate takes its name from Charles de Saint-Évremond, a 17th-century French epicurean exiled to England who became a champion of Champagne at the English court. This historical connection between France and England in matters of fine wine now finds new expression in the chalk hills of Kent, where 28.5 hectares of vines grow in conditions remarkably similar to Champagne itself.

The domaine is situated at Selling Court Farm near the quintessentially English village of Chilham, close to Canterbury in the heart of Kent's North Downs. The chalk soils, south-facing slopes, and mild climate mirror the terroir of Champagne so closely that Taittinger saw it as the natural home for their English venture. The classic triumvirate of Champagne grapes – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier – are planted with the same meticulous attention to terroir that defines Taittinger's French estates.

Christelle Rinville, viticulturist for Champagne Taittinger, has overseen plantings at the site, ensuring that the same standards of viticultural excellence translate from Reims to Kent. The first wine, Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvée, is described as pure, elegant, and distinctive – a true expression of its place that has earned classification as Quality English Sparkling Wine.

The new Cellar Door, opening in Spring 2025, is situated in the heart of the vineyards within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering visitors the chance to experience this historic Franco-British collaboration firsthand.
