Fawley Vineyard

Fawley Vineyard occupies a spectacular position high in the Chilterns in the village of Fawley, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Henley-on-Thames. This one-hectare estate has been cultivating vines since 1985, with mature plantings that have developed deep roots in the Chilterns chalk.

Fawley Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties

The vineyard is dedicated to Bacchus grapes, producing both still and sparkling white wines. Bacchus has become one of England's most successful varieties, and Fawley's mature vines produce concentrated, characterful fruit that captures the essence of this beautiful landscape.

The viticultural calendar follows traditional rhythms. Pruning takes place in February and March, while summer is devoted to tending the vines through the growing season. Friends gather each year for the harvest in mid-October, creating a communal celebration of the vintage. The grapes are then transported in a vintage lorry to the award-winning winemaker Vince Gower at Stanlake Park Wine Estate near Twyford.

Fawley's Old Forge Bacchus demonstrates what mature English vines can achieve when carefully tended in the right terroir. The wine showcases the aromatic, zesty character that makes Bacchus so appealing, with the mineral backbone that comes from chalk-influenced soils.
