About Giffords Hall Vineyard
Giffords Hall Vineyard has been crafting English still and sparkling wines since 2009 from their charming 19-acre estate nestled between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury in rural Suffolk. The vineyard sits on an ancient glacial riverbed, creating ideal conditions for growing grapes naturally high in sugars and acidity.
Giffords Hall Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
The sandy loam and gravel soil composition at Hartest supports vines now over 30 years old, producing wines with remarkable character and depth. Grape varieties include Bacchus, Rondo, Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc, with recent additions of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Meunier expanding the range.
Recent expansion to the Wickhambrook vineyard site demonstrates continued investment in quality production. The commitment to excellence has yielded impressive results: three Gold medals, seven Silver medals, and thirteen Bronze medals from the Independent English Wine Awards, plus recognition from Wine GB, Decanter World Wine Awards, and Wine GB East.
Their 2024 Bacchus earned Gold at the 2025 Independent English Wine Awards, praised as 'how Bacchus should be - lovely nose, juicy, mouth-watering, with nice weight.' The 2023 Pinot Noir earned Silver for its beautiful dark red colour, blackcurrant flavour, and elegant oakiness.
