Godstone Vineyards produces boutique English sparkling wine from their award-winning estate nestled in the Surrey Hills on the North Downs Way. The Deeley family first planted vines here in 1985 and celebrated their first vintage in 1988, establishing one of Surrey's pioneering wine estates.

Godstone Vineyards: Site and Grape Varieties

The vineyard is set within fifty acres of glorious countryside, with vines growing on a gentle south-facing slope of free-draining Upper Greensand soil. This unique geology, combined with the microclimate at the foot of the North Downs, creates conditions that allow grapes to develop wonderful aromas that define Godstone's distinctive terroir.

Two grape varieties are cultivated - Seyval Blanc and Bacchus - both harvested by hand with only the finest fruit selected for production. The wines are vinified using the Traditional Method employed in Champagne, with secondary fermentation in bottle creating fine, persistent bubbles.

The light morning mists of late summer and early autumn contribute to grape development, while the relatively cool microclimate preserves the elegant acidity essential for quality sparkling wine. This combination creates wines with a rich nose of orchard apples followed by exquisite citrus fruits.

Godstone's sparkling wine is available exclusively from their vineyard shop, making it a truly limited edition offering. Visitors can experience the peaceful beauty of the Surrey Hills while discovering wines that demonstrate the quality achievable from England's southern chalk downlands.
