About Hidden Spring Vineyard
Hidden Spring Vineyard is a 23-acre smallholding situated in Horam, just outside Heathfield in the heart of East Sussex. The vineyard has undergone a remarkable transformation since its original establishment in 1986, evolving through periods of successful wine production, conversion to a campsite, and ultimately its current incarnation as a thriving modern vineyard.
Hidden Spring Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties
In 2015, the vineyard was significantly expanded with the planting of over 24,000 vines across five different varieties, spanning 13 acres. This substantial investment transformed Hidden Spring into a serious wine producer with ambitions to create exceptional Sussex wines. The vineyard was acquired by Richard and Sara Asman in early 2022, bringing fresh energy and vision to the operation.
The winemaking is led by Micaela, a Plumpton College graduate and experienced viticulturist who has made a tremendous difference to both the quality of fruit the vineyard produces and the wines that emerge from it. Her expertise in the vineyard and winery ensures that Hidden Spring's commitment to excellence is maintained at every stage of production.
The vineyard takes pride in its grape-to-glass philosophy - all grapes are grown, hand-picked, and bottled on-site. This control over the entire process allows for wines that truly express the Sussex terroir. The range includes still wines such as Bacchus, Bacchus Fumé, and Pinot Gris, alongside sparkling wines featuring Classic Cuvée, Blanc de Blancs, and Blanc de Noirs.
Particularly distinctive is the 'Here be Dragons' range, featuring unique still and sparkling rosé wines that have become signature products. The sparkling rosé is described as a vibrant salmon pink fizz brimming with aromas of fresh strawberries.
