Pattingham Vineyard

Nestled in the picturesque village of Pattingham in South Staffordshire, Pattingham Vineyard represents a true labour of love for the Wilcox family. Founded in 2018 by Martin, Jane, and Stevie Wilcox, this family-run vineyard has grown from an initial four acres to an impressive twelve, now producing around 30,000 bottles annually across a range of superb still and sparkling wines.

Pattingham Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties

The vineyard's south-facing slopes, natural spring water, and free-draining sandy topsoil provide ideal conditions for viticulture. Having never been exposed to chemicals, the land allows for a low-impact, sustainable approach to winemaking in what the family describes as a 'nature-friendly paradise'. This commitment to environmentally conscious practices shines through in every bottle.

Pattingham grows an impressive variety of grapes, carefully selected for the English climate. Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir Précoce form the backbone of their sparkling wine production, while Solaris delivers wonderfully crisp whites with tropical and citrus notes. The Swiss variety Divico, along with Rondo, creates their full-bodied Rudge Heath red, and Siegerrebe adds distinctive character to their white wines and rosé.

The estate's artistic bottle labels, inspired by 1950s St Ives artists like Peter Lanyon and Terry Frost, are created from original oil paintings based on aerial views of the vineyard, making each bottle a genuine work of art. Visitors can experience the wines at 'Sip', the charming tasting room overlooking the vines, where coffee, cake, and Shropshire charcuterie platters complement wine tastings.
