About Stonepit Vineyard

Stonepit Vineyard represents a dream brought to life by John and Fiona, who planted their vineyard in April 2018 on a gently sloping, south-facing field over a limestone bed near Olney. The vineyard name 'Stonepit' honours the site's heritage, as it was reportedly the original name of the farm before the Diocese of Lincoln College Oxford took ownership and renamed it Rectory Farm.

Stonepit Vineyard: Site and Grape Varieties

The vines were carefully nurtured through their formative years, leading to an exciting first vintage that was hand-picked in April 2021. The vineyard's aim is to produce boutique wines of exceptional quality, White, Red, and Rosé still wines, with sparkling White and Rosé added to the portfolio from summer 2024.

The white wine is crafted from the Bacchus grape, producing a pale lemony hue with aromas of lemon grass, herbs de Provence, and elderflower notes, a light, dry wine that has won critical acclaim. The rosé is created from a post-fermentation combination of Bacchus and Regent varieties. Stonepit has achieved remarkable success, winning Gold Medals for both their White and Rosé wines, with the rosé featured on BBC Radio's Bill Buckley Show.

The vineyard markets its wines locally and hosts popular summer open days and private tastings. A charming detail adorns each bottle label: it depicts the vines, Olney town bridge, and the church, with the clock hands pointing to nearly six o'clock, because, as the owners note, it's always almost wine o'clock somewhere in the world.
