Wyken Vineyards

Wyken Vineyards occupies a south-facing slope once favoured by the Romans, on a 1,200-acre Suffolk farm that includes a flock of Shetland sheep and a seven-acre vineyard producing award-winning wines. The estate, recorded in the Domesday Book, has been crafting wines of distinction for decades, including the prestigious English Wine of the Year.

Wyken Vineyards: Site and Grape Varieties

The vineyard flourishes with 12,000 vines rooted in sandy loam over chalk – ideal terroir for quality wine production. Since 1988, varieties including Bacchus and Pinot Noir have been nurtured here, yielding around 12,000 bottles annually. Each bottle tells a tale of the land, the seasons, and the hands that tend it.

Wyken's Bacchus is the jewel in their crown, a past winner of English Wine of the Year and Best East Anglian Wine. This dry wine with Sauvignon Blanc character exemplifies what English viticulture can achieve. The Moonshine sparkling wine, a blend of Pinot Noir and Auxerrois, won East Anglian Wine of the Year in 2017, while the welcoming Madeleine Angevine hums with fruit.

The estate extends beyond wine to include Good Dog Ale, brewed with Suffolk malting barley and Liberty hops, and Bacchus Gin, distilled using Bacchus grapes alongside botanicals foraged from the wider estate – gin with a true sense of terroir.

Visiting Wyken Vineyards

Wyken has become a lively and creative community destination, with an award-winning restaurant and café, thoughtfully curated shop, and weekly farmers market. Vineyard tours run from April to September, offering insight into the vineyard year from winter pruning through bud burst, flowering, and the crucial ripening period when the all-important balance between sugar and acidity is achieved.
