About Yorkshire Heart Vineyard
Yorkshire Heart Vineyard is an award-winning family-run vineyard and brewery based in Nun Monkton, a picturesque village between York and Harrogate. What began in 2000 with just 35 vines in Chris and Gillian Spakouskas's garden has grown into 35 acres of glorious Yorkshire countryside, with 17,000 vines across a 14-acre vineyard producing top-quality wines.
The hard-working team is focused on producing award-winning fine English wines from grape to glass, with everything done on-site in their own winery. Chief winemaker Gillian Spakouskas carefully monitors the wines during a 12-month fermentation and maturation period before stabilising, filtering, bottling, labelling, and packing in-house.
Yorkshire Heart grows an impressive 17 varieties of grape, learning each year which are most suited to the Yorkshire climate and topography. White varieties include Solaris (their largest planting), Ortega, Bacchus, Seyval Blanc, Madeleine Angevine, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. Black grapes include Pinot Noir, Rondo, Regent, Dornfelder, Acolon, Gamay, and Cabernet varieties. This diversity allows production of unique and beautiful tasting reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wines.
The journey expanded in 2011 when Yorkshire Heart became a vineyard and brewery, adding craft ales to their repertoire. A cider orchard planted in 2013 produced its first batch in 2017, completing the transformation into a complete drinks destination.
Grapes are handpicked during the autumn harvest by a wonderful team of volunteers and friends, maintaining the community spirit that has defined Yorkshire Heart from the beginning. The passion and dedication of everyone involved creates artisan Yorkshire products that truly come from the heart.
